If you’re over 30, you’ve probably never used (or heard) of TikTok. The platform has exploded. But what is TikTok, and what’s the fuss about?
TikTok is truly a global phenomenon. While I may find myself outside of the age range to even think about getting involved, it’s incredibly popular with younger audiences. But why?
Well, the answer is pretty simple: it’s fun!
In short, users upload short videos, edited with various filters, music, and effects.
Unlike many social media platforms, TikTok is a fun environment for people to be themselves and share what they enjoy. Personally, I think that’s a great thing.
But what about parents concerned about their children’s safety on the platform? Like any social media platform, parents should be aware of what TikTok is and what their children are doing on it.
TikTok is an open platform, meaning strangers can see the content you post. That’s why it’s important for parents with young children to set some rules and regulations around how their children use the platform.
Just like your children’s Facebook or Instagram accounts, I recommend making their accounts private. At the end of the day, TikTok is all about people having fun, and that’s certainly all over the platform.
