ACCC crackdown on influencers • Sunrise

An ACCC crackdown on influencers spreading dishonest information online is in full swing, calling for people to report suspicious activity.

While I was in Melbourne ticking attending the Australian Open off my bucket list, I was thrilled to join the @sunriseon7 team for a chat on Masters of Spin.

This time on Sunrise, we were talking about the ACCC cracking down on influencers and how Nick Kyrgios has recently become the new “voice of reason” in the world of tennis.

Are you a social media influencer? Well, it’s important to remember that honesty is the best policy, with the ACCC cracking down on dishonest influencers spreading misinformation online.

The influencer marketing industry definitely needs more regulation. For now, any dishonest content creators caught spreading dishonest information could face fines of up to $500,000.

It’s fair to say Nick Kyrgios is a polarising character in the world of tennis. After pulling out of the Australian Open due to injury, the much-maligned figure had some suggestions, saying, “The sport, as well as the Australian Open, needs to evolve and embrace different personalities.”

Anyone who knows me knows that I love tennis. However, I do understand where Kyrgios is coming from. The world of tennis has focussed so heavily on the game’s biggest stars for so long now and seems to fear embracing players with more personality. Love him or hate him, Kyrgios puts bums in seats, and that’s good for tennis.
