In what ended up being an engaging, energetic, and humbling experience, I was recently fortunate enough to speak at the 2014 WAFarmers AgConnect Conference.
It was a serious privilege to speak and educate such important members of our community on how they can use the power of social media to help grow their operations and stay engaged with the digital world.
The AgConnect conference strives to engage, connect, represent, educate, listen, advocate and support young people throughout the agricultural industry and communities, in order to address challenges they face, and harness opportunities that are available to them.
As someone who spends most of my working day behind a screen (or a few), it was fantastic to step in front of a crowd that spends most of theirs getting their hands dirty. It is always exciting to share my knowledge with people from a variety of industries, but it is uniquely rewarding when the knowledge I am sharing feels like it is truly making an impact on how people will run their businesses and reach more customers.
I took the attentive crowd through an absolute crash course in everything that is social media for business. It is fair to say that social media seems like a completely foreign world to the majority of Western Australia’s farming community. However, in today’s digital and globalised world, understanding the basics of social media, is a crucial tool for farmers looking to maintain and grow their businesses.
Whether it is Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or even live video streaming, I ran the enthusiastic crowd through the major social media platforms, how they work, and how they can leverage them and make them work for their businesses.
