Fatwa Declared on Crypto

29 November 2021 11:51 am

Fatwa declared on crypto tops the list of interesting stories this week in the world of social media and tech.

After a little bit of a break, I was absolutely over the moon to jump back on Mark Fennell’s Download This Show podcast for a chat about everything happening in the world of social media and tech!

Kicking things off, are you aware that trading cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Ethereum, and even Dogecoin was recently declared forbidden for Muslims living in Indonesia? That has to be a pretty bitter pill to swallow for the 6.5 million people in Indonesia currently invested in crypto.

Will the ban stick, or will the potential gains be too much for people to resist?

In some news a litlle bit closer to home, a new campaign between Tinder and the Queensland Police has been launched in an effort to reduce sexual violence and assaults. We haven’t seen a joint effort between a dating app and a police force before, so it is certainly an interesting space to keep an eye on going forward.

The move came after a reported rise in the number of assaults being linked with online dating. It is definitely a step in the right direction, but only time will tell if other dating apps will follow in Tinder’s footsteps.

In some absoutely massive news within the right to repair movement, Apple has recently announced a new Self Service Repair initiative. The move will now give people who feel confident in their ability to fix their own tech the opportunity to purchase genuine parts directly from Apple.

Does Apple really want people to be able to repair their own devices, or are they simply caving into mounting public pressure? If you ask me, I’d say the latter.

Would you be game enough to replace your own iPhone’s screen? What about the camera? The battery? Let me know in the comments below.

Last up, Adele made a massive power move, forcing Spotify to do something they have never done before. It is a move that genuinely changes the way in which fans listen to Adele’s music. Don’t know what it is? Listen to the episode below to find out.
