Social media for sporting clubs is an often overlooked by grassroots sports, with many clubs not understanding the power of social media.
I was fortunate enough to join Blayne on 91.3 SportFM Radio’s Sports Line to have a chat about how social media can help local sporting clubs grow, reach new players, and a whole lot more.
Depending on the size of your local sporting club, the ways in which you use social media will certianly vary. Whether you are trying to connect with players, coaches, fans, or even local businesses looking for sponsorship opportunities, social media can open doors that would otherwise remain shut.
The days of putting an ad in the local newspaper have long been in the rearview since the inception of social media. One of the best ways to engage with people on social media, especially on a platform like Facebook, is to start a group. Groups are free, easy to run, and they are a simple way in which to keep people in the loop with everything going on with your sporting club.
If you are a member of a decently-sized local sporting club, Facebook is certainly a great place to start. It does, however, depend on who you are trying to reach or what you are trying to achieve. If you are simply looking for someone to help out on a gameday, Facebook is probably your best bet. However, if you’re looking to recruit new players, why not try having a bit of fun on a platform like TikTok or Instagram?
When you are trying to connect with people on social media, be age appropriate with where you are focusing your efforts and investing your time.
