State of Social Review • The Experts

State of Social may be done for another year, but that doesn’t mean we’re not already planning for next year’s conference.

I was absolutely honoured to be asked back on The Experts podcast powered by Media Stable for another chat with Nic Hayes and Lanna Hill.

After almost a year of planning, re-planing, and keeping my fingers crossed that WA could avoid any more COVID-19 lockdowns, State of Social is finally in the rearview. Following what is always such a busy and hectic time in my life, it was great to sit down and reflect on the conference that was.

With COVID-19 always at the back of people’s minds, holding a social media and digital marketing conference with more than 550 people in one room isn’t the easiest thing to do.

However, that is exactly what State of Social ’21 was. Wrapping up not even a month ago, Perth’s best digital marketers, communicators, brands, and social media professionals descended on Optus Stadium for a look at all the curent and future trends facing our industry.

And what a conference it was! Over two info-packed days at State of Social, guest were treated to mind-blowing presentations and workshops from Zoe Scaman, Mike Drysdale, Adrian Molina, Rachel Corbett, and so many more, and some of the best gift bags this side of the equator (if I do say so myself).

Nic, Lana, and I had a wonderful chat about some of my favourite presentations, before moving onto the future of the events industry and what events will look like as we all try and put COVID-19 somewhat behind us.

If you know me at all, you know that I think Perth is the best city in the world. More than that, however, it is also an incredible (yet often overlooked) destination for large events and conferences, with so many people opting to host their events in Sydney or Melbourne. That’s something I’d love to see change. Hopefully, State of Social can play a small part in that change.
