Facebook Data Leak • FIVEaa Adelaide

With Facebook experiencing a huge data leak, it has been a big week for the tech giant. Will this be the straw that breaks the camel’s back?
I jumped on the phone with FIVEaa in Adelaide to have a chat about how this Facebook leak is impacting users, Facebook itself, and what we should all do about it.
In what has been somewhat of a public relations disaster for Facebook, more than 533 million people have had their personal details released online, including seven million Australian accounts.
Much of the leaked information included names, email addresses, and phone numbers. In an interesting twist, Mark Zuckerberg’s phone number was also included in the leaked information. However, let’s be real here. As the CEO of Facebook, I’m sure Zuckerberg has a few phone numbers.
But what is the biggest shock of all of this? Well, I would have to say it is the fact that this leak happened in 2019, and we are only just finding out about it now. While we are only finding out about this now, it begs the question: how long has Facebook known about the leak? My money is on a while.
While I work in the world of social media, I am a bit anti-Facebook. It seems to be becoming harder and harder to trust a company like Facebook.
I know what you are all thinking here: what is going to happen to Facebook here, if anything? Well, according to the GDPR, companies must notify people immediately if there has been a breach. If you fail to do so, you could be liable for up to four percent of your global revenue. Will anything come of this Facebook data leak? Only time will tell.
For now, if you have not done so already, I strongly recommend logging in to your Facebook account and changing your password.
