David Attenborough Breaks Instagram • Tony McManus on 6PR

Remember when Kim Kardashian broke the internet? Well, it looks like David Attenborough has taken her digital crown and broken Instagram.

OK, well, David Attenborough didn’t physically break Instagram, but he did break the world record for the fastest person to amass one million followers. The natural historian with a voice of gold shattered the previous record held by Jennifer Anniston, cracking one million in just four hours and 44 minutes.

That’s a seriously impressive effort for the 94-year-old who has taken to the platform in an effort to spread awareness about the need to act on climate change.

It’s no surprise that David Attenborough broke this record. I mean, have you ever met anyone who doesn’t like David Attenborough. Now, of course, social media isn’t his natural habitat, so don’t expect Attenborough himself to be hitting up your DMs.

I also ran Tony through some of the most exciting features of the newly-released version of the iOS mobile operating system, iOS 14.

There’s been a pretty significant overhaul to how your iPhone will now look after you update, with the addition of widgets, custom icons and more. Make sure you keep an eye out for some handy on-screen tips that will walk you through all the changes and how to get the most out of them.

Jump in and start seeing how you can personalise your iPhone experience. Maybe you can even add David Attenborough Instagram to your home screen.

We even took some time to take a few cheeky jabs at Myspace. When was the last time you logged on to your long-forgotten Myspace page? It might be a cringe-inducing trip down memory lane, or maybe just good for a few laughs at your younger self. If you can remember your password, of course.

I wonder if David Attenborough ever had a Myspace page?

And that was a great lead-in for our quick chat about Netflix’s new documentary, The Social Dilemma. If you’re looking for something to watch right now, it’s definitely worth checking out, and it might just change the way you think about how you use your social media platforms.
